About
Pride School Atlanta, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose primary purpose is to operate a democratic school for ages 9-18 that is OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS and free of homophobia and transphobia. As an organization, we educate, connect and support people from all around the world who are dealing with issues that crop up around being in the LGBTQQIA community. Our school opened in August 2016 with 8 students. In addition to those at Pride School Atlanta, we have supported over 200 youth, educators, and families around the state, country, and the world. We have provided training to small faith-based communities, large schools, the State Department, and large conferences including the NCTEnglish convention and the National Urban League's Whitney Young Leadership Conference.
One of our biggest goals is to create a self-sustaining organization that will create campuses that are available to all who need them, regardless of ability to pay. We have raised over $50,000 in 2.5 years with the help of various community partnerships and individual donors, in addition to about $20,000 or more in furniture, materials, and textbooks. Volunteers have donated over $15,000 in time to our school in 2016.
While other schools may affirm LGBTQQIAAlly people, we are OPEN about it and want the world to know that we honor our LGBTQQIA constituents and their allies. We have created a space where everyone gets to be themselves. We honor those who use they/them/their pronouns. -
